How To Write SEO Friendly Content

Creating web content is excellent, but you won’t receive your expected results if you fail to optimize it correctly. The disheartening thing about these search algorithms is that they follow rules like keyword recognition, user on-page time, and typically how the content is structured, for example, readability to rank content.

If you want your SEO campaign to become successful, you need to make your content SEO-friendly. Whether you’re optimizing for local, nationwide, or global SERPs, you’ll want to become knowledgeable on the below how-to guide for creating well-optimized SEO content.

Write well-optimized SEO friendly content (5 steps)

It’s evident that SEO is extremely powerful. Considering it’s estimated that organic searches, aka SEO, drives 51% of all B2B and B2C website visits. From knowing this, I’m sure you’re eager to start developing some knowledge of creating SEO-friendly content. So, let’s dive right into it.

1. Develop research and create goals

Before you type anything, you’ll want to develop some research and create some goals for the post. Research is critical, as this will ultimately determine whether or not it’s worth your time trying to rank for a specific keyword. Here are a few things you need to develop some research on:

  • Keywords and keyword difficulty – First, you’ll want to find some keywords you want to rank for. You can either perform this naturally through search engines or with paid tools. Whatever way you achieve this, you’ll want to determine which keywords have high traffic flow and what keywords your website can rank for.

To make this easier, find out the domain authority (DA) your website has. After, search your keyword in Google and see which websites are currently ranking for that phrase/word. Let’s take “best laptop 2021” for example. If you’re a new website, you’ll have a DA ranking of zero. But, after looking at this keyword, you’ll see the likes of TechRadar, CNET, PCMAG, and lots more high DA websites. Therefore, you’ll want to skip this keyword and maybe look at something that has less traffic flow and lower keyword difficulty, like “Best Laptops for seniors 2021”.

  • Competition and current search content – After, if you believe you can rank for these keyword(s), you’ll want to research your current competition and see why their ranking. I would note down content style (listicle, how-to, infographic), word count, number of internal & external links, the total number of paragraphs & subheadings, and general overall structure. You’ll want to perform this exercise on all websites on the SERPs. This way, you can increase each of these aspects to enhance your chances of ranking.
  • The people also ask section – Another compelling way to rank your content and make it SEO friendly is by optimizing the “people also asked” section. This typically occurs under a search query, and they’re questions that people are searching related to the keyword.

2. Create a simple structure

Hands down, the above is an essential step to creating SEO-friendly content. You can now create a simple content structure and start ranking for your chosen keywords with the above information. Here are some tips for structuring your SEO content.

  • Title
  • Short introduction
  • A body (include H2, H3, and H4 sub-headings at least every 300 words)
  • Conclusion

Including the above, remember to write your titles and headings based on what people would search. For instance, if you want to rank for the keyword “cowboy boots”, you’ll want to create headings like “best cowboy boots for adults”, “Most affordable cowboy boots”, “Top 10 cowboy boots”, etc. Although this will depend on the goals of your post, you get the idea. This is how people search the internet. Therefore, optimize for it.

3. Don’t overcomplicate the writing

According to this study, only 2% of global adults can read at a top-level. Because of this, don’t make your content too difficult to read or understand. If you want to enhance the readability of your content and increase the time users spend on your pages. Consider these helpful tips:

  • Small paragraphs – From doing this, it makes the content seem much less daunting to read. Most copywriters try to write between two to five sentences per paragraph. This also helps with optimizing your content for mobile.
  • Headings every 300 words – By applying this, your content will be easier to follow and navigate.
  • Transition words – This helps users scan through content and quickly grasp the relationship between both sentences and paragraphs.
  • Keywords – Let’s not forget the keywords, and in particular, keyword density. For most keywords, around a 1% rate is fine.

4. Internal and external link

Next, you’ll want to include both internal and external links within your content. This helps search engine spiders crawl your website to determine where you’re getting your information from, recognize relatable pages, and rank you depending on your trustworthiness.

  • Internal linking – is when you link to other pages on your website which are relatable to the content.
  • External linking – occurs when you link to other websites. Typically this is where you gather your information from—for example, a scientific study, etc.

5. Use an on-page SEO plugin

Lastly, use an SEO plugin. This makes your SEO-friendly content creation much more manageable and straightforward. Many free SEO plugins are good enough, as they’ll be able to supply you with the following information:

  • Keyword density in your content (titles and body), meta description, URL, alt text, etc.
  • Most premium SEO plugins will also provide you additional keywords related to the topic.
  • They’ll also provide you a readability score. As mentioned earlier, you want to write in simple words, phrases, paragraphs, and sentences, and this feature will tell you whether or not you did a good job.
  • Including the above, it’ll also tell you whether or not your internal and external links are providing you benefits. For example, if you’re linking to a similar page, it could negatively affect your rankings.

Using an on-page SEO plugin, it’ll essentially guide you to creating well-structured SEO-friendly content. However, you’ll want to ensure yourself that you’ve picked keywords that you can rank for. If you have, the rest is history, and you should enjoy your traffic.
